Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Current Releases

HERMITAGE BLANC

Predominantly Marsanne with around 20% Roussanne, the Hermitage Blanc is a blend from several different vineyards: Rocoules, Hermite, Péléat, and Maison Blanche. Each vineyard has a distinctive geological profile and as a result each plays a particular role in the overall expression of the wine.

The wine is fermented entirely in mostly neutral oak barrels and ages in oak for two years before release.

HERMITAGE ROUGE

Jean-Louis' approach to blending different vineyards into a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts carries over to his Hermitage Rouge. His Syrah comes from plots in Bessards, Beaumes, Hermite, Péléat, and Méal.

It is mostly de-stemmed and then fermented in a combination of tonneaux and stainless steel before it is aged in mostly neutral oak for two years and a half.

ST JOSEPH ROUGE

The Domaine St. Joseph is a product of the family's origins in Mauves and Jean-Louis' now decade-plus long project to restore ancient terraces long abandoned within the appellation. Sourced from the historic villages of the appellation before it was expanded, Jean-Louis has holdings in Tournon, Mauves, St-Jean-de-Muzols, and Lemps.

The wine is fermented in a combination of tonneaux and stainless steel before it is aged in mostly neutral oak for a little over a year.

ST JOSEPH ROUGE Clos florentin

The 2015 is the first release from the Clos Florentin under it’s own domaine label. Previously it was being blended into the Domaine Saint Joseph. It is made from a parcel purchased in 2009 from Domaine Florentin (Le Clos de l’Arbalestrier), an old domaine with a clos located in the village of Mauves, in the heart of the Saint Joseph appellation. The vines are on average over eighty years old.
