Cascina Penna-Currado is the new personal venture of the Penna-Currado Vietti family, spearheaded by Elena Penna, Luca Currado Vietti and their kids, Michele and Giulia. Custodians of a cultural and sentimental legacy in the noble lands of the Langhe, Luca and Elena spent over 35 years at the helm of one of Piedmont’s most lauded wineries, Vietti, until both decided to part ways in January of 2023. Their new venture is of entirely different scale, artisanal, and they look forward to building it as a family endeavor with their marvelous mix of wit, wisdom and refreshed ambition grounded by their sound roots and experience in the Langhe.

“In the firm belief that fresh energy is the driving force behind successful businesses, we have invested in the future of our family, which can count on substantial know-how and solid roots in the place it calls home. We know that the Langa area will play an increasingly central role in the future of Italian wine, especially if family and authenticity continue to be espoused as core values in artisanal approaches.”
- Luca Currado Vietti

Wines

Dolcetto d’Alba - Bricco Lago

Vineyards lie in Monforte, in an area with particularly great natural biodiversity. Elena and Luca strongly believe in Dolcetto as an important “tool” for young wine drinkers and their entry level exposure to the Langhe. The grapes are vinified whole cluster and aging takes place in stainless steel for this fragrant rendition of Dolcetto.

Pelaverga - Pelà

Sourced from 15-year-old vines in Verduno, the historic heart of the tiny Verduno Pelaverga DOC, Pelà captures the distinctive character of this rare indigenous variety. The vineyards sit along the ridge connecting La Morra and Verduno, where calcareous soils and elevated exposures contribute freshness and aromatic precision. Fermented spontaneously in stainless steel with minimal intervention and aged entirely in tank, the wine emphasizes the purity, transparency, and vibrant expression of the variety.

Barbera d’Alba - Carrà

For Luca and Elena, Barbera has long been a cornerstone of the Langhe and one of the region’s most compelling ambassadors. Carrà comes from the San Sebastiano area of Monforte d’Alba, a high-altitude site shaped by cool air currents, late harvests and a landscape rich in natural biodiversity. Sourced primarily from old-vine parcels planted in 1965 and 2000, the vineyard combines the concentration of mature vines with the freshness that defines this corner of Monforte. Gentle fermentation and aging in large oak casks preserve the character of the site, resulting in a wine that expresses the depth, energy, and distinctive terroir of the Langhe through the lens of Barbera.

Langhe Nebbiolo - Bricco Lago

From a unique vineyard site in Monforte d’Alba surrounded by unmatched biodiversity and clay and limestone soils, these Nebbiolo vines cascade down from the church of San Sebastiano towards the only natural lake in the Langhe. Cold maceration is used, followed by whole berry fermentation (not whole cluster, as they wish to avoid excessive power). 8 to 12 months of barrel aging set this Nebbiolo into a different realm in relation to other wines in its category.

Nebbiolo d’Alba DOC Superiore - San Sebastiano

San Sebastiano in Monforte d’Alba is a unique enclave of biodiversity, where vineyards are surrounded by forest and a natural lake. Planted to 15–65-year-old Nebbiolo vines on a mosaic of south-, east-, and west-facing slopes, the site benefits from cooling Alpine air currents that extend the growing season and preserve freshness. Traditional vinification includes cold maceration, extended submerged-cap fermentation, and aging in barrel for twelve months before bottling. The result is a wine that captures the depth, structure and distinctive character of this historic corner of the Langhe.

Timorasso - Derthona

This Timorasso showcases Elena's belief in the historically undermined variety that sparked the global Derthona boom. The sole white wine of the CPC project sees a brief skin maceration and submerged cap fermentation (an unusual practice for Timorasso that Elena became keen on after visiting with a grower in Liguria), which lend depth and texture without oxidation, while aging in stainless steel, Clayver amphora, and (from 2024) a touch of acacia wood enhances its mineral, saline character. Complex yet precise, with increasing proportions of skin fermentation (30% in 2023; 40–45% in 2024). From 2.5 hectares of estate vines.
